Within two years time, he was a Pro Bowl quarterback that led his team to the playoffs. Within the next two years, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank made him one of the NFL’s highest paid players, by signing him to a 10 year, $130,000,000 contract. Replicas of his number 7 jersey became one of the NFL’s top selling memorabilia pieces. After two more years, this world of glory came crashing down. Michael Vick was born in Newport News, Virginia in 1980. As a child of unmarried parents (they did marry when Michael was five years old), he grew up in the public housing projects of Newport News. This neighborhood was known for financial hardships, crime, and drugs. Young Michael used sports and fishing was a way to escape the horrors of the local streets. After establishing himself a football star at the high school level, he was offered and accepted
