Is Michael Vaughan the right man to be captain of Englands cricket team?
Michael Vaughan was never suited for the one-day format. He looks even more incongruous in today’s game where raw power has taken precedence over touch artistry, placement and precision. Comparing Vaughan with other national openers is an exercise in contrasting batting styles. Jayasuriya, Gayle, Sehwag, Hayden, Gilchrist, Afridi have only one thing in common (other than being openers of course) – they have made it their life’s purpose to belt the leather off the ball. Fortunately or unfortunately, they are the ones who can change the course of a match if they stick around for 10 overs or more.
