Is metacam good to give my cat for arthitis?
I used it short-term for my arthritic cat, but was concerned about the long-term effects. It’s similar to Ibuprofen, and my thought was that while it’s better than a steroid anti-inflammatory, it still carries risk from long term use. When I started the Metacam, I also started adding Conjointin/Glucosamene to his food as a more natural alternative. I also added pet steps to his favorite spots in the house (bed, couch, window, etc) so that the amount of stress on his joints would be reduced. After about 2 weeks, I took him off the Metacam and kept him on the Conjointin/Glucosamene. He seemed to be comfortable and quite content with this for several more years. I do, however, recommend that you discuss any alternative therapies with your vet before beginning them. Good luck, and I hope your kitty begins to feel better soon.
