Is mental illness invented?
Mental illness is real, it’s not just about certain behaviours or how normal they are. Mental illness is caused by a chemical imbalance or malfunction in the brain. Some brain scans can show massive differences in the brain of, say someone suffering from schizophrenia, compared to someone without a mental illness. Therefore, if these things can be visible on scans, and can be successfully controlled, sometimes cured, through the use of drugs, I believe that they definitely are classified as illnesses. Try telling someone suffering from a major depressive episode that they haven’t got an illness, and that they’re just different. I know for myself, I haven’t killed myself because for the simple fact that I know I have an illness. It can be treated, I just have to get the right medication combo, right doctor etc. And as many many people suffer from mental illness, throughout the world, I don’t see how it can have been invented.
