In a recent question you asked about the difference between a Medical Transcriptionist and Medical Records, I explained what the Medical Transcriptionist does. Basically, I gave an example of a Radiologist, i.e., a Radiologist could look at an X-Ray and dictate his findings into a voice recorder. Later, the Medical Transcriptionist would listen to this voice recording and type what she hears in the computer to create the official printed patient report. This concept , i.e., where a Physician dictates findings and a Medical Transcriptionist types them can not only be applied to Radiologists, but to Pathologists who do autopsies, Pathologists who look at tissue under a microscope, and other applications. In that sense, the good news is that Medical Transcriptionists can work in many healthcare areas.
