IS MDCPS GIVING AWAY $19 MILLION TO DELOITTE?
At a June 25 special meeting, MDCPS Deputy Superintendent Ofelia San Pedro informed the School Board that the district was postponing the Finance Module of BOSS, an $85 million software-overhaul project meant to streamline business operations such as scheduling, payroll, human resources and purchasing districtwide. Finance was to be postponed until “a date to be determined later.” As a result of the postponement, the district presented the Board with item SP-1, a proposal to fire 24 employees then working on the Finance Module who had become expendable in light of the freeze. The reduction in force would allow the district to put $2 million — the sum of the 24 employees’ salaries — in BOSS’s contingency fund. By a 5 to 4 vote item SP-1 passed. Then a funny thing happened. In an Aug. 14 memo, then-Superintendent Rudy Crew provided the Board with a financial breakdown of its options regarding continuing, suspending or terminating the BOSS project, which has struggled to stay on schedule
