Is maxima and minima an important topic ?
Uh, yeah? Maxima and minima are useful when analyzing anything whatsoever that needs to be maximized or minimized. It’s true that in most real life careers, you’ll probably never have your boss hand you a quadratic equation and ask you to solve it. Most people don’t become engineers, architects, scientists or such. At its root, though, math is all about analyzing and solving problems, and those are skills that are useful in any walk of life. Think of it this way: Way back when you first learned about multiplication, you probably had to fill out a bunch of times tables. You’ll never be asked to do that in real life either – but there are countless things you could never do if you didn’t understand multiplication well enough to do times tables. Maxima and minima are the same way: you may never be handed a quadratic equation, but just developing the intuitive understanding that many things have an optimum level, and too much & too little are not ideal, can be highly useful.
