Is masturbation acceptable?
The Bible does not deal directly with masturbation. Christians and non-Christians will disagree about whether these behaviors are productive or counterproductive in lovemaking. Lacking specific biblical direction, ask yourself and your mate questions, such as, “Is the behavior loving?” “Is this behavior mutually satisfying?” “Is the behavior obsessive?” Some cultures reject such practices; others promote them. If the only purpose of sex were orgasm, people would masturbate and not engage in relationship or intercourse. Masturbation is easier, more predictable, and more within your control than couple sexuality. One does not have to worry about body image or acceptable techniques as judged by a mate. Sex was designed to be mutual pleasuring and an emotional and spiritual connection. Masturbation is not a way to grow in relationship. Although, masturbation can be helpful in learning about your own body in order to teach your mate. Most biblical teaching has been based on the story of Ona
