Is marijuana affecting my condition of bipolar II?
I am also bi-polar type two and the short answer is yes. We have problems with our downs, and marijuana is a downer. Now the only problem is if you smoke habitually you want to be care full if your considering quiting. Recent studies have shown marijuana to have physical addiction tendencies associated with the drug. This means when used some receptors in the brain will become more tolerant to the drug, thus making it more difficult to attain the same “high” every time, requiring more marijuana. When coming down that affects you serotonin level which is what makes you happy and stable, being bi-polar type 2 will only worsen the effect.
Bipolar disorder and substance abuse Alcohol and drug abuse is very common among people with bipolar disorder. Research suggests that up to 60% of bipolar people abuse substances (most commonly alcohol, followed by marijuana or cocaine) at some point in their lives. It’s important to remember, however, that substance abuse does not cause bipolar disorder. A person with untreated bipolar disorder may turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to cope with the effects of the disease. This kind of self-medication is ineffective and dangerous, and it can make the diagnosis and treatment of the underlying disease much more difficult.
