Is mandarin going to be the universal language?
More than likely English will remain the most dominant “lingua franca” (latin for “common language”) but no doubt knowing Mandarin is becoming an advantage in countries who do business with China, most of the Chinese living abroad speak Cantonese rather than Mandarin however. Something which may be hard for english-only speakers to grasp, it’s never bad to be at least conversant in another language. It’s just that many of you are so used to being able to go anywhere in the world without making much of an effort to communicate with the locals.
