Is managing Capital Ones Texas banks more challenging than training for a marathon?
I think there’s a lot of parallels in training for a marathon. You have to be so disciplined. Whether it’s raining or it’s cold or you just don’t feel like it, you got to get up and go do it because you’ve got to keep pace with the group. And it’s very similar to that in our industry right now. There are a lot of things going on, and you can just phone it in and say I don’t want to play today. But you don’t get that choice. You’ve got to get up every day and go out and compete and try to do the best you can. I learned so much about myself training for that marathon. Q: How competitive is the Austin market compared with some of the other markets you’ve been in? A: Very competitive. The heart of Texas between Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio are clearly the most competitive markets. We’re headquartered in Virginia and have a lot of our presence in New York.
