Is Malaysia a poor country?
No. It has vast resources of forests, minerals, sea food. It has a high rate of growth, among the highest in the world. Next to Singapore, it is a shopping area for the world. Tourism is growing very fast. Human Resources Development through education is well developed. It is a very liberal country, embracing many cultures in its national heritage. Until a few decades back, Malaysia got the bulk of its income from export of rubber, tin, timber, and other natural produce. It rapidly industrialized, and now has a varied economic mix, in which the tertiary sector, especially IT, has a great share. The government is welfare oriented, and looks after the needs of the poor by providing common facilities free or at subsidized cost to them.
