Is Lucian Freud the greatest living artist today?
Lucian Freud who is the grandson of Sigmund Freud was born in Germany in 1922. He and his family moved to England in 1931 and he became a British national in 1939. He began concentrating on his art after the war and is now considered to be one of the most powerful contemporary figurative painters today. It is the subjectivity and intensity of his portraits and nudes that set him apart from traditional characteristics of most British figurative art. Many regard him as the greatest figurative painter of our time.
