Is loaning a horse/pony normally free?
Loaning is not always free so you need to be aware and check over the agreement carefully. However, there are some genuine “free” loans around. I have 2 currently on loan, although they still live here in my field with thier friends. One is totally out grown, in her mid 20’s, but still an amazing jumping pony, loves to hack out and go for the occaisional beach/forest ride. She also loves attention! The other I bought for my husband to hack out, he quickly found lack of time to be a problem and then lost interest. My other guys ( youngsters ) take up most of my time and so it made sense to get in help! The girls work to ride! Simple really! Muck out, groom, hoof pick etc. They help with field maintenance, rag pulling, stone picking, poo picking. They clean tack, fill hay nets, check water etc! No money ever changes hands, I still pay the insurance, vet bills, farrier, feed, etc But in return for work, they get unlimited riding. Seems to me like a good deal!
