Is life really better in Australia and New Zealand, would like to hear form ex pats esp?
I’ve moved to New Zealand from the UK myself a few years ago, following a job offer. My opinion is that New Zealand does offer a much nicer life on a regular salary. I’m a lecturer, my wife is a nurse; hardly the kind of professions to get wealthy in. In the UK, we owned a semi-detached house in a really bad area, drove two pretty old cars to work for hours every day, and barely scraped by, both working full-time. Also, we were horrified by the violence and the crime around us, could barely sleep at night. Now we live in New Zealand, and things look up: Even though we both work only part time, we own a nice house with bay views, drive new cars, and haven’t even seen a hint of crime or disturbance of any kind in years. While our example may be extreme in its contrasts, it is my impression that most people who’ve traded a life in the UK for one in the two countries you’ve mentioned consider it the best move they’ve ever made, and so do I.
