Is leucovorin calcium the same as levoleucovorin?
Leucovorin calcium contains two isomers. The active stereo isomer is levoleucovorin. Levoleucovorin is normally given in dosages, which are 50% lower than those of leucovorin calcium. Bioequivalence of levoleucovorin and leucovorin calcium is demonstrated for 15 and 30 mg1. No studies were conducted to demonstrate therapeutic equivalence2. 1) DeVito JM et al: Bioequivalence of oral and injectable levoleucovorin and leucovorin.
