Is lead free solder any good?

0

For electronics, lead free solder is worse than crap. it will eventually grow tin whiskers and short your equipment out. I challenge ANYONE to point to a single person that has been poisoned by lead based electronic solder, I can certainly point to plenty of people who have died as a result of faulty electronics that can be attributed to tin whiskers. 60/40 or 63/37 (eutectic) solder is perfect for most electronics. Lead free solders have a higher melting point causing more heat stress on parts, requiring higher temp soldering irons, are less ductile and will form brittle intermetallic oxides as they age. And they will cause tin whiskers as well.
