Is laser eye surgery painful?
I had laser surgery 3 years ago. was strange but not painful at all. I never smelled it burning nor did they clamp my eye down. They deadened my eye which numbed it as well as paralyzed it. They did clamp my head down so I did not move my head which is important because the laser can harm you if you move. I was scared up front but after a few minutes that fear went away and it wasn’t no big deal.
The LASIK procedure is associated with a sensation of pressure during certain steps of the surgery, but the patients rarely describe it as painful. There may be mild or, rarely, moderate discomfort following LASIK, but most patients find that their eyes are quite comfortable following this procedure. The advanced surface ablation (ASA) procedure usually causes some discomfort. However, the discomfort only occurs during the first one to three days following the surgery. A soft contact lens is placed on the eye at the end of surgery, and this acts like a bandage to help minimize discomfort. In addition, comfort drops are prescribed to treat eye pain. The amount of discomfort is quite variable among patients. Most individuals have minimal discomfort, while some have mild to moderate discomfort.
