Is Lars Ulrich overrated as a drummer?
Lars is not a great drummer in terms of technique…but he has never claimed to be. He is however a great “groove” drummer and by that I mean he can lock down a steady beat and swing it pretty good. He is an athlete when it comes to the faster stuff too. If you really listen carefully what may seem simplistic and “similar” as you say is actually the best thing to serve the song he is playing at the time. His best drumming in my opinion is on “…And Justice For All” where he really stretched him self with his double bass drumming which he sadly does not do as much anymore. I love Metallica too and can’t wait for the new record on Sept. 12th. I have pre-ordered the coffin box set!!
