Is Lake Powell safe for a family getaway?
Because of the rugged nature of the canyons, there are limited facilities apart of those offered by full-service marinas. There are no lifeguards on the beaches, and taking along a cellular when visiting isolated areas of the Lake is strongly suggested. It is important to watch the weather when hiking in the area as flash floods can be a common occurrence during certain times of the year. When on the water or parked in a houseboat, life jackets should always be on children (and anyone that cannot swim). Never dive into the lake from cliffs or ledges! If you must be a daredevil, always jump feet first! And do not drive on Lake Powell at night. (All rental craft are prohibited from driving at night).
