Is Krill Oil a Weight Loss Supplement?
Omega-3 fats have been hailed as “miracle fats” because of its health promoting properties, particularly in protecting your heart and reducing your risk of cardiovascular disease. Now, new research suggests that omega-3 fats can also help you lose weight. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition showed that krill oil, one of the best animal sources of omega-3 fats, is more effective than fish oil in fighting certain metabolic conditions, including increased fat levels in the heart and liver. Using parameters associated with obesity, the researchers found that krill oil helped reduce heart fat levels in lab rats by 42 percent, compared to just 2 percent for fish oil. Krill oil also helped reduce liver fat levels by 60 percent, with fish oil only accounting for 38 percent. Fat build up in the liver is associated with insulin insensitivity and type 2 diabetes.
