Is kqemu open source yet? When will it be made open source? How much can I pay to make it open source?
kqemu (the official QEMU Acceleration module) is not open source yet. If it was open source, either this faq would be updated immediately, or the topic in the channel would mention something like “KQEMU IS OPEN SOURCE!!!”, so there is no need to ask this question. Ever. As for being made open source, Fabrice Bellard has stated he will open it up if he is able to get commercial support to do so. This is very unlikely, so there is nothing you can do or pay to make kqemu open source. Those who want an open source kqemu should look at the qvm86 project instead. This is a drop in replacement for kqemu. No benchmarks have been done, but users have reported that qvm86 is as fast as kqemu, and in some cases it is faster. If you want to donate money, spend it here. kqemu, the official QEMU Accelerator, should not be confused with KQEMU, a KDE/Qt3 GUI front end to qemu which is released under the GPL. This project seems to have been renamed to KRDesktop.
