Is Koreas standard of living really that bad?
No, not at all. It’s just that Americans are used to a big, affluent country with lots of wide-open spaces. Hardly anybody else in the world lives that way. When Asians and Europeans come to the US, their first reaction is usually, “Everything’s so BIG!” And it’s true. Everything is: houses, vehicles, roads, supermarkets, refrigerators, schools. Even our pets are bigger. Even we are. When you go overseas, the scale is going to be smaller and the standard of living lower. For Americans who haven’t travelled before, this takes a little getting used to.
