Yes, the supreme royal council of the kingdom of hip-hop/soul have officially appointed her Her Royal Highness Princess Keyshia, countess of wailing, heir apparent to the throne of Queen Mary. On a more serious note, yes, there have been several notable figures in R&B criticism who have indeed informally appointed Keyshia to the role. She has a lot going for her, good weighty vocals and well-chosen producers/songwriters, but I think it might be a bit early to cry wolf yet – someone who’s hyped to that degree needs to be watched over a period of a couple of more albums before we can be sure. One factor one might want to consider is what other pretenders there are to the title – I can’t really think of any decent alternatives at the moment. (Amerie would be another option I guess.) So what you say might well be true.
