Is keeping tropical fish expensive esp. electricity bills?
We currently have a fish tank in our office. We have a Santa Clarita Bail Bonds company and the additiona of a fish tank makes the office very nice. Since the bail bonds agents are there for many hours, have a fish tank help take care of some of the monotony.
So, costs for a tank and its expenditures. We have a 250 gallon tank which we got on a crazy sale at Petco and then it was discounted another 30% because there was a chip in the glass, so we got it for $90. Normally they are 3 times that amount.
Filter; Filters are the most important part of the tank, so don’t skimp on the costs here, we got a filter that will filter a 300 plus gallon tank. This way we don’t have to clean it as much and its more than capable of handling the task. Cost? $195.
Miscellaneous stuff: rocks, fake folliage, things for the fish to swim through, $40.
At the bail bonds office we have all kinds of cool things in the tank, some kind of wrecked ship and stuff.
When it comes down to it, the cost of monthly electricity bills is so minimal that you won’t even see a difference in the bill.
Oh, the fish, we got like 10 different fishes and other various things and spent about $100.
Fish food about $50 for the year.
Overall costs: $90 + $195 + $40+ $100 + $50 = $475 plus maybe $3 a month in electricity, if that.
