Is Jupiter and Zeus the same person?
Neither was a person – they were the chief gods respectively of the Romans and the Greeks. Each people recognised them as the same god, different name, just as they recognised other high gods as the same. When Pompey the Great captured Jerusalem, he immediately sacrificed in the temple to Yahweh the Jewish high god, recognising him as just another of the names of Jupiter and Zeus.
