Is jean-baptiste lully gay?
“Gay” is a modern idea of sexual orientation. During the 17th century, people had different ideas and view of homosexuality. People who had homosexual relationships also might not have identified themselves the same way “gay people” do today. Therefore, to say that Jean Baptiste Lully was “gay” is incorrect. He did however have sexual relationships with men and women. The closest modern label that we could give him would be bisexual, although in reality we will never know for sure what his true orientation was.
