IS JAW SURGERY CONSIDERED AS A LAST RESULT OR A SUPPLEMENTAL PROCEDURE IN ADULTS?
In children, while in active growth period, with favourable growth data we attempt to modify growth to allow maxilla (upper jaw) and mandible (lower jaw) to balance out. Once rapid jaw growth of the maxilla and mandible have ceased, or the direction, amount or symmetry of growth of these 2 jaws has become unfavourable, then jaw surgery is considered as an options in an attempt to achieve our 5 major treatment objectives.
