Is Jane Eyre a pilgrim?

Depends on your definition of pilgrim. I suppose Jane is similar to a pilgrim in the sense that she makes an epic journey. The novel explores Jane’s life and development as a person and the wealth of social and political issues that she faces. Education, family, social class, relationships between men and women, women’s equality, religious faith and hypocrisy, the realisation of self, and the nature of love to name but a few. All these elements culminate in forging Jane into the person that she becomes. Eventually she finds her own strength and regains her spirituality and by the end of the novel she becomes a strong, independent woman through the experiences of her journey through life.
