Rider students benefited not only from McBride’s experience as a memoirist and fiction writer, but also from knowledge gained in his years as staff writer for the Boston Globe, People Magazine and the Washington Post. He has also been published in Essence, Rolling Stone and the New York Times. Combining his music background as a songwriter and a saxophonist who tours with his six-piece jazz/R&B band, McBride penned “Hip Hop Planet,” for National Geographic, which is a respected exposition on African-American music and culture.
