Is Jakotsu a youkai/demon?
No. Nor are any of the other Shichinintai members – they’re all humans, including Kyoukotsu (whose abnormal size is partly due to his consumption of youkai and human flesh). In both the Inuyasha manga and anime, the Shichinintai are referred to as bourei, a word that means ghost or apparition (It can also be used to refer to “the dead”. The American dub translates bourei as spectre.). However, seeing as the Shichinintai are resurrected in physical rather than spiritual form they tend to be classed as “zombies”, which may be a more accurate description. Perhaps the best comparison I can come up with is another Inuyasha character, Kohaku, who was also resurrected by Naraku using a Shikon fragment.
