Is Italian a useful foriegn language for a young person to learn to speak?
A recent study predicts that the most commonly used languages by 2050 will be Mandarin, English, Spanish, Hindi/Urdu, and Arabic. This is based on numbers of native speakers and English being a globally accepted language for business. Italian also does not rank among the top 10 most widely spoken languages. However, the decision on whether to learn Italian (or any language) should be based on the career aspirations and personal goals of the individual. For example, if you have a passion for fashion, Ducati’s and to live/travel/work in Italy, then learning Italian would be very useful. Before deciding, try first determining a career/life goal (what would you like to be doing and where in 5 years time… 10 years time?) and see how learning Italian fits into that goal.
