I would say yes, but then my interests lie with ancient history. If you don’t really like that sort of thing, then no. Being inside you can appreciate the size and scale of the stones,which you can’t from outside. You can see the carved dagger and axes from 4000 years ago and come up close to the human-like bluestones (thought by some to have ‘healing powers.’ You can see the crushed altar stone, lying under the great trilithon which fell on it. You will also see just how SMALL the area is inside the stones (and it would have been even smaller in the bronze age when there were more stones)–which is one big reason why access is limited today. Nearly 1 million people visit the stones every year,sometimes over 8000 in a day. Fencing off the stones was a necessary ‘evil’ I’m afraid. Tthe stones were in dire shape by the 70’s, covered in graffiti and with people still trying to take chips away as souvenirs. (Some of the graffiti is still visible btw.)
