Well, yes. If you’re a member of the AARP, you can get discounted rates through the insurance company it’s affiliated with. I have the AARP insurance through The Hartford and it’s definitely made my rates a lot more affordable.

We’ve been members for about 5 years and we actually did better on both auto and homeowner’s insurance by ourselves. Further, at the time I asked for a quote from them, they were using the Hartford which wouldn’t insure our home because we are in a back country area prone to wildfires. They do offer travel and other discounts (Borders bookstores 10% off for example), the magazines are interesting to read and they do keep you abreast of laws that affect older Americans and legal action they are taking. But, they couldn’t beat the prices on insurance we got researching it ourselves.
