Is it worth investing in double bass drum pedals?
Of the pieces of equipment used to augment a drum kit, a double bass pedal will perhaps make the loudest impact. Its role is fairly self-explanatory – it allows drummers to play bass beats at twice the speed, meaning it is perfect for bands who play fast songs. Therefore, it is probably best suited to an intermediate drummer who is looking to take their playing on to the next level. In recent years, metal groups such as Slipknot have used the double bass pedal to great effect in songs such as Heretic Anthem. Meanwhile, these types of pedals have also been used by musicians who play fast live dance music such as drum’n’bass. However, this does not mean that groups who play other styles of music may not find a use for a double bass drum pedal. They could prove to be a useful piece of kit when improvising new songs or experimenting with different styles of music – something that is healthy for all musicians from time to time.
