Is it weird that so many old wives tales about pregnancy are still beleived today?
Yes I agree that the people who ‘trot out’ the old wives’ tales during pregnancy really did bug me. Perhaps it was just that I was extra sensitive about the subject then. Im sure none of it was meant seriously or maliciously, lots of people (particularly the older generations) just like to try to be encouraging and helpful and to show an interest. These people probably make just as many comments about other subects as well, but you probably havnt noticed (red sky at night – good weather, cows lying down – going to rain, black cat crosses your path – good/bad luck etc) The pregnancy ones just register more as it is at the front of your mind just now. I bet you have noticed far more pregnant ladies / ladies with babies/ tiny children wherever you go than you ever did before you were expecting – its just that this is what is important to you at the moment, grin and bear it.
