The reason why most people who have engagement don’t get married is because they’re expensive – you’ve just said you’d marry this person, and already you’re spending your nest egg! Go with the meal and save the money for the wedding!

I’m from the South, where EVERYONE is superstitious, and I’ve never heard anything like that! Besides, if it were unlucky, I don’t think engagement parties would be as common as they are!

No way go out there and celebrate- just say it’s an excuse to get drunk and have fun and be the centre of attention and if people say to you “those who have engagement parties never get married” then just point out that those who get engaged have a better chance of getting married than those who aren’t engaged and that you just want to celebrate an occasion that means alot to you. I’ve never heard of it being bad luck. Go and celebrate.
