Yes. Hudson’s Bay Company bought Zellers in 1978. Walter Zeller himself was born and raised near Kitchener and launched Zellers in 1931 after purchasing a small chain of 12 stores, all of which were located in SW Ontario. Ontario remained the core market for a very long time.
