Since the suicide of 17-year old French girl under influence of mushrooms in March 2007 and some other incidents, the selling and use of mushrooms has come high on the political agenda. In that month the papers wrote that a majority of the Second Chamber wanted a ban on fresh mushrooms (dried mushrooms are already forbidden). The minister of Health care (mr. Klink) announced an investigation to the risks of mushrooms, in particular the hallucinative effects. However, the following report of CAM (Coordination Assessment and Monitoring of new drugs) in June 2007 assessed the risks to be low to moderate. Still the ministers of Health care (mr. Klink) and Justice (mr. Hirsch Ballin) announced in October 2007 that the cabinet will classify fresh mushrooms as hard drugs, and thereby making them illegal. A press release end October o
