No. It’s not true, they haven’t used corporal punishment in decades in state schools. It was properly banned in private schools in the 90’s I think. I think your friend is just trying to wind you up. Don’t worry about it, the worst you’ll get is detention or clean up duty. Although you wouldn’t be worrying about it if you behaved yourself, would you. Keg stage 3, is how we split up the education in Britain. Key stage 3 covers years 7,8 and 9. It’s the first part of secondary school. Year 9 is similar to the American 8th grade. (I’m assuming that’s where you are from). I’m in Year 11, key stage 4. You’ll have a lot of fun here, enjoy.
