Is it true the US Army invaded the Conch Republic?
On Septeber 22, 1995, at 1:00 p.m. members of the US Army’s 478th Civil Affairs Battalion from Miami violated the sovereignty of the Conch Republic with an unannounced mock siege of the small island nation. A convoy of 75 vehicals and 150 personnel were confronted at the Cow Key Channel Bridge (connecting Key West to Stock Island) where the defense of Key West was staged. Armed with stale Cuban bread, marshmellows and beer, the Conch Republic’s Militia, Air Force, and Navys met the Yankee horde and repelled them. POW’s were taken to the Schooner Warf for interrogation via intoxication.
