The Red Army was brutal. But, understand, it was engaged in a war of genocide. When Nazi Germany conquered the Ukraine, German troops were greeted by a jubilant population, angry at Stalin’s purges, with a liberator’s welcome. If Hitler and his minions were wise, they would have at least temporarily dismissed their murderous plans for the Eastern Europeans, armed the Ukrainians and sent them against Russia — so hated were the Soviets in the Ukraine and other Eastern European lands.
