Harper Lee wrote “To Kill a Mockingbird” but she was a close friend of Capote and the two of them grew up together. Not only are the writing styles very different but Lee included a tribute to Capote, in character form, in her book. The character’s name escapes me but the mousy kid from the city who is spending the summer in town and becomes the playmate of Jim and Scout is considered to be a portrait of Capote as Lee remembered him as a child.
