Is it true that the Washington State Patrol is going to build a new lab on the EWU campus?

Indeed it is. Plans now call for a building located on the hill on Washington Street (appropriate, isnt it?) between the Phase and married student housing. It will be roughly across the street from the Child Care facility. Current plans call for a single-story building with about 32,000 square feet of space including a forensic garage facility. The lab will replace the current lab in the basement of the Public Safety Building in Spokane and will be large enough to accomodate a toxicology section and future growth. Teaching labs and classrooms will also be available and EWU students will have the opportunity to participate in some training there. The lab should open up in late 2004 or early 2005, but as with all government projects, there will always be some uncertainty until there are people at the site with backhoes and shovels.
