Some confectionery, however, such as some brands of jelly beans, chocolate coated peanuts etc., are coated with glazing agent 904 (Shellac) which is obtained from the resin produced by the lac insect. I think this is what you may have heard about. Glazing agents give confectionery a shiny coating and prevent them sticking together in the packet.
