Is it true that the secret recipe for Kentucky Fried Chicken is buried with Kernal Sanders?
The KFC you eat today tastes nothing like the KFC when the Colonel was in charge. The new people modified the recipes over time so it no longer has 11 herbs and spices in it. He was mortified when they came out with the crispy chicken. To him (and me) it tastes like cardboard. There are many recipes for KFC look-alikes but they aren’t exact. The closest I found was a combination of tomato cup-a-soup mix and Italian Seasoning Mix – mixed together in the flour. But the real trick was the pressure cooker he used. But unfortunately the cup-a-soups aren’t made anymore. I watched him when he first started his restaurants during a matinee on a movie at home in the 60s. He put his chicken in his special pressure cooker/fryer and the chicken was done in exactly 7 minutes. And the oil in the cooker has to be an exact temperature. At home, you can’t put very many pieces in the oil or the temperature drops too much and winds up steaming the chicken instead of frying it and the batter gets gummy. S
