Is it true that seagulls will explode if u feed them bicarbonate of soda?
Yes it can make them explode. They don’t explode like a bomb, however it will kill them. This is because unlike humans they cannot expel the gas. When we have indigestion or heartburn and take bicarbonate of soda (baking soda), it causes a gas to build inside of us that when we burp or belch, allows the gas to escape. Seagulls or other animals like them cannot perform this function, which causes their stomachs to explode. This actually happened to a human about 15 years ago who used bicarb approximately 30 minutes after eating I believe it was Thanksgiving Dinner. Medical professionals will recommend waiting at least 2 hours before using anything such as Baking soda for relief. Additionally if you are in the Navy and caught feeding Alka Seltzer or other such items to the wildlife you can be punnished under Military law for animal cruelty.
