Is it true that refilled and remanufactured cartridges are better for the environment because they reduce the waste that goes into landfills?
Remanufacture and reuse is only one facet of the environmental lifecycle. A complete approach to the environment considers all aspects of a product’s lifecycle. Choices made and processes employed by the producer that affect product design, manufacturing, packaging, usage and final end of life will have a direct input on the total environmental footprint of a product. Due to handling and other factors in the remanufacturing process, only some of the cartridges returned for remanufacture are reusable. Eventually, remanufactured and refilled cartridges must also be disposed of, preferably by being recycled. HP constantly monitors and seeks to improve the environmental impact of all of its products – from design and manufacture through to distribution, use and end-of-life recycling. A robust network of product stewards work with designers, R&D teams, engineers and customers to identify, prioritise, recommend and implement environmental design improvements.
