Is it true that only male marijuana plants smell like weed during seedling and vegetative growth?
Cannabis is a dioescious plant – meaning it bears male and female flowers on separate plants, unlike most plant that have male and female parts on the same plant. Odor is more related to strain than sex, although female plants often have a stronger odor, especially when flowering, males can smell, too! The only sure way to tell male from female is to induce flowering, or wait until it flowers naturally, and check the sex based on the types of flowers it produces. Females have long slender pods with two hairs protruding, males have small bunches of pods without hairs. Both sexes produce their flowers at the leaf/stem nodes.
