Is it true that Nirvana played their first-ever Seattle show opening for Skin Yard?

Yes. The day after Jack recorded Nirvana’s first demo, he came into a Skin Yard practice space and insisted that we listen to this little trio from Aberdeen. Our response was pretty much instantaneous. It was love, and we all begged Jack to make us each our own personal copies of the tape. He asked Curt if he minded, Curt said no, and that was that. About a month later we had an open spot on a gig at Squid Row on Capitol Hill (The space is now home to the Kinkora Pub), and asked Nirvana if they’d be interested in coming up to Seattle and playing a show. Excitedly, Nirvana agreed. Curt seemed downright terrified that night, but the music was dead-on, and that was really all that mattered anyway.
